A Farming We Will Go!

E-i-e-i-o! Join us for farming fun as we visit various farms in and around Chatham, Orange, and Lee Counties. Our goal is to provide campers with hands-on experiences of a day-in-the-life of local farmers and their necessary contributions to our communities. Did you know that there is an Alpaca Farm in Chatham County? That's just one of the places we will visit! Pull out your straw hats, boots, overalls, and lets get ready to get dirty! Yeehaw!!!!

Ages:  4-12

Act it Out!
                                     

Kids are naturally gifted in DRAMA so let’s put this gift to use! This camp will boost self-confidence, improve public speaking skills, teach children how to be part of a group and how to work within a group, improve articulation, and increase creativity. Campers will learn the fundamentals of theater, such as, voice inflection, speaking in front of an audience, improvisation, articulation, variance in tone and volume, facial expressions, appropriate gestures without exaggeration, interaction with other performers, audience awareness, and on and on….

After-Camp Care w/Loretta Hackney 4:00-5:00 p.m.

                                                                   

 

Boss not nice enough to let you off work every day in time to pick your camper up from Woods at 4:00 p.m.?  What's THAT about?  Did someone forget to tell him/her that it's SUMMER???  We've got a solution for you: your children can hang out & chill out with Loretta Hackney's after camp until you can pick them up!  Mrs. Hackney's ability to relate well to children of all ages is proven, and she'll offer a nice relaxing time for her after-camp kids during which entertainment options will include a variety of things ranging from artistic endeavors to academic assistance. 

Cost: $25/week*

You may also pay $5/day if you do not need before-camp care for the entire week.  Make these arrangements directly with Mrs. Hackney. 

Before-Camp Care w/Loretta Hackney 7:45-9:00 a.m.

                                       

Do you need to drop your camper off early in order to arrive at work on time?  We have before-camp care available from 7:45-9:00 a.m. every day with Loretta Hackney.   Loretta's rapport with children is legendary, and the environment she provides is filled with light, love & laughter.

Cost: $25/week*

You may also pay $5/day if you do not need before-camp for the entire week. Make these arrangements directly with Mrs. Hackney. 

Books, books, books (Loving the reading life!)

This camp will revolve around all things book-related and reading. We'll create several types of bookmarks, a reading pillow with pocket, and even dream and sketch our dream reading nook. There will be slots of time in between projects to read a few pages in their favorite books out loud or to themselves. Books, books, books. We might even have time to create a little bookshelf.

Chess Camp Rooks

        

Students will learn chess fundamentals and strategies that enhance learning skills and critical thinking. We will build confidence and play a tournament at the end of the week. Novice students and experienced players are encouraged to sign up as we will have multiple levels of experience.

Christmas in July!

OH MY GOSH!!! DO your kids just LOVE Christmas???!!! I do! The tree, presents and music! Christmas is coming this summer and YOU can be transported into a winter wonderland full of Christmas activities! We’ll make ornaments, trim a tree, sing christmas karaoke and have an Ugly Christmas Tee Shirt Decorating Contest! Yule love it!!!

Creative Writing for Grades 5 and 6

Discover your creative side and find your passion for writing! Create a book full of your imagination and excitement utilizingthe writing process, outlining, and concrete words. Develop good sentence structure, clarity and variety in your writing.  Practice character, plot and setting development that will bring your stories to life. Experienced teachers Mrs. Faulkner and Mrs. Kirk, with a combined teaching experience of over 30 years, will help you master grammar and editing skills while polishing your stories. Your student will also learn from children’s book authors throughout the week to provide guidance and advice! Students will also write one piece to submit for a writing competition! Your masterpiece is waiting to be put on paper!

Dig It! Volleyball Camp (INTERMEDIATES & ABOVE)

The Dig It! Volleyball camp will aim to further the skills of both new and developing volleyball players. Our days will consist of both drills to develop skills and fun volleyball games. In addition, we plan on working in some type of conditioning circuit each day to help build mental and physical strength. Our goal is to help the campers further develop their volleyball skills while also having fun. We emphasize confidence building because of the mental nature of the game of volleyball. Our hope is that the campers leave with a newfound confidence, stronger volleyball skills, and have had enjoyed the camp itself.

Hooked on Drums! African Drumming and Art

        

During this fun-filled week campers will dive into the culture of West Africa! We will listen to and learn to play the djembe (a traditional West African drum), create hand-held instruments and crafts, and enjoy a wide variety of West African games, songs, and dances. At the end of the week we will put on a small performance for parents and camp staff to show off what we’ve learned! Campers should wear comfortable clothing and come ready to move, shake, and rock! No musical experience necessary, drums provided.

Kidpower Youth Empowerment and Leadership Camp

    

In this summer camp, students will learn leadership and self-empowerment skills to use in their every day lives. Using games, role plays and physical self-defense, the students will learn valuable safety skills that empower them to manage conflict using a positive, effective and safe way. Kidpower is dedicated to working together to build cultures of caring, respect, and safety for everyone, everywhere. We are a global non-profit leader dedicated to providing self-empowerment, positive peer interaction, communication, conflict resolution, and personal safety skills. Our programs are a balance of building self worth, while focusing on prevention skills to set boundaries appropriately and to avoid confrontation in order to stop most trouble before it starts.

LEGO Robotics

        

Explore the exciting world of robotics and engineering! LEGO Robotics camp is a fun, STEM learning experience for curious and creative children. Campers will solve challenges by building and programming robots using the LEGO Mindstorm Robots. In addition to having fun, participants learn about mechanical and software design, problem solving, and teamwork skills. No experience necessary! Student teams will complete several projects and mini challenges, and will have an opportunity to design and program their own robots.

Little Veterinarian School

Adopt a pet and start your training as a veterinarian! Explore the principles of animal care to keep your dog healthy and strong. Suture a laceration, calculate hydration needs, and learn how to give medications all while keeping a journal of your findings along the way. All graduates of Little Veterinarian School will receive a stuffed dog, dog bowl, recipe for dog treats, and much more.

LMS: Wilderness Medicine and Disaster Preparation!

Little Medical School brings medicine, science, and the importance of health to children in an entertaining way. Children learn and have fun as they explore the skills necessary for wilderness survival and emergency preparation. Students will learn how to assess and treat snake bites, hypothermia, and broken limbs. In addition, they will discuss common natural disasters and practice how to treat injuries associated with it.

Math Escape! 3rd & 4th Math Enrichment and More!

Math Escape! 3rd and 4th Grade Math Enrichment and Breakout Room Camp!

Solve our math mystery adventures everyday by utilizing logic and math skills that will help crack the case! Work with a group to follow clues and decipher the codes to be the first to solve our escape room! Class will be taught by experienced teachers who want your student to succeed. Games, math tricks, puzzles and other fun activities will ensure a mastery of mental math, fractions, multiplication, division, order-of-operation, rounding, and more. Get a head start on next year by gaining confidence and understanding of math while having fun! Each day will be a new experience and challenge that will inspire students to love Math!

One-of-a-Kind Doll Dream Closet

This is an example of a fun closet campers can make for

their American Girl Doll clothes and accessories!

We'll be designing & drawing, and step-by-step, building & creating the perfect portable doll dream closet for their American Girl Doll or 18" doll. We'll be working with wood, sandpaper, felt, paper, fabric, feathers, markers, paint, and more. This closet will have a place to hang doll clothes, a shelf for shoes, an even a mirror...maybe lights too!

Photography - Your Style, Your Story

Through demonstrations and hands on instruction, campers will not only learn a wide range of photographic techniques, but also some insights into what makes a “good” photograph that catches the eye. Encouraged to spend each day with a camera in hand, they will learn by doing. After being taught methods to bring their own photos to life throughout the week, student will enjoy a field trip to put those new found skills into practice and will end the week sharing their work, their style and their story!  While camp will be on site, there will be a one day field trip to encourage students to put their new found skills to into practice.

Pollinator Power

Head outside to discover the world of pollinators. Become an entomologist for a week while you shrink down to focus on flowers and the super powers of the bees, wasps, butterflies, beetles,and flies who love them. Learn to swing an insect net, use a microscope, and build a bee hotel for your own backyard. Ask and answer important questions such as why do some bees chew wood? And why do daisies smell like sweaty feet? We’ll have fun, go on adventures, and find some really cool bugs.

Scratch Coding Camp! Games Galore!

In this coding adventure, aspiring innovators create fun animated stories and games while learning essential programming concepts with Scratch. Using sprites and blocks, this drag-and-drop platform developed by MIT sets a foundation of computational thinking—an essential skill in today’s tech-driven world—by using bright visuals and engaging design. Students will write their own animated games daily and will play hands on games to help them strengthen their coding skills! Students from 3rd to 6th grade will work with Mrs. Faulkner to become master coders! Students of all skill levels are welcome as each child will be given a custom learning plan!

Sphero Robot Bowling, Dash Robot Mazes, and More!

Interested in robotics? Love to take things apart and put them back together? In this summer camp cowritten by a NASA engineer, students will learn basic robotic concepts including programming, construction, and electronics needed by building, programming and running their own robots. They will learn to program an independent, moving robot to create their own images and paths. Students will also learn about electronics, power, sensors and control needed to make robots interact with their environment. There will be Sphero robot bowling games and maze running, Dash robot coding races, and more! The best part is that students will build and keep two robots that will give them hours of fun and inspire them to explore science in the future! We can’t wait to see you there! Cost includes all materials and take-home goodies!

STEM + Jedi w/LEGO® Materials (FULL DAY)

Prepare for a full-day LEGO® camp packed with hands-on and minds-on STEM fun! Build projects inspired by cool machines close to home such as Cities, Garbage Trucks, and Catamarans. Then build X-Wings, Energy Catapults, and Defense Turrets from a galaxy far, far away! Learn about BOTH kinds of The Force in this new full-day themed engineering camp for LEGO® fanatics!

Wild Flora Fun!

Campers will learn all about the world of flowers! Topics include Flower Arranging 101, wearable flower jewelry, flower collages, terrariums, dried flower activities and many more flower centered projects (even some that involve science!). We will also explore outside and plant our own herbs and vegetables! In addition to flowers, we will have many other activities that include fairies, gnomes and bees and how they roam in the land of flowers!

Yoga + Art + Exploration Camp!

Explore art, yoga and mindfulness in this summer in this unique camp! We will embrace the richness of arts, nature, and yoga. Each day will be different, offering field trips to the Briar Chapel Trails for a Mindfulness Hike and Nature/Art Exploration and Honeysuckle Tea House for a tour of their gardens and an outdoor yoga class. No yoga experience required. Snacks and materials included.

Youth Hoops (REGISTER DIRECTLY ON YH WEBSITE)

 

Youth Hoops is a youth basketball instruction firm offering ongoing basketball camps and clinics to kids (boys & girls) ranging in ages 6 to 14. The camps and clinics are based on a comprehensive course curriculum, which emphasizes basketball fundamentals. Such basketball fundamentals include dribbling, passing, shooting, one-on-one defense, footwork, screening and rebounding.  Using professional and portable basketball drills, kids will be able to improve their game greatly. In addition, many drills may be repeated anywhere.  The goal of our camp is to provide every camper, within a fun-filled atmosphere, the basic fundamentals necessary to play basketball. We emphasize the fundamentals. Every camper will be shown what to practice and more importantly HOW TO PRACTICE. Everyone will receive plenty of individual attention. We want each camper to be a better player when the week is over.
